OK - Time to take the plunge!. I used a medium sized flathead screwdriver and a hammer to break the window. I placed the screwdriver in the lower left corner of the window, then hit it with the hammer. It was not easy to do, as the glass didn't want to break. But it finally went "pop!". I used a flat head screwdriver because the tip gets wider and it tended to wedge in the broken pane, and not hit the outside pane. You can see the results above.

Update, August 2005: Several people wrote to me about a tool called an Automatic Center Punch. This is basically a spring loaded awl. You press down on it and it snaps down to mark or punch a drill spot in metal.

I purchased one of these, but was concerned that the force of the punch would break through BOTH pieces of glass. So I performed a test with two scrap pieces of glass separated by some pieces of wood (simulating the two pieces of glass in the Vistaview window). Both pieces of glass broke, so I didn't try it on my windows.
